This meeting has open talk of babies and pregnancies, so if you're still sensitive to these topics, you should come to the main meeting later in the month. Angel of Hope

On the 6th of December, this year as every year, there will be a memorial service in downtown Fayetteville. It will be held in front of the Angel of Hope statue at the park, at 7pm. Similar statues are in more than 60 cities around the country. Fayetteville’s statue is the only one in North Carolina, according to the SHARE program’s Web site. Fayetteville joins approximately 30 other cities around the United States in this special annual remembrance of these special lives. Candles and carnations will be provided or families may bring their own flowers.

Lori Farmer, a nurse who has organized the ceremony in the past and helped bring the statue to Fayetteville, hopes the ceremony helps parents who have lost children realize they are not alone. Farmer also lost a child, but her mission to bring families to the Angel of Hope reaches beyond her grief. She says families in mourning need to have a place to remember their children.

"It doesn't matter whether you are 20 years old and lost a child or 90 and lost a child, the grief is still there," she says. "The pain is there forever."

The Angel of Hope Monument was introduced in a book by Richard Paul Evans, The Christmas Box. Although the book was a work of fiction, the original statue once existed in Salt Lake City and was thought to have been destroyed. After the publication of his book, Evans heard reports that parents who had lost a child were seeking the Angel as a place to mourn and honor the memory of their beloved children. He then commissioned a statue based on the description in his book. Replicas of this statue have been placed in other communities in the United States and others are planned world wide.

A Walk to Remember

We had a good turnout this year, despite all the speedbumps we hit along the way! The chapel was more than enough room to be out of the chilly October air, and the walk around the parade grounds was enough to serve our purpose. The shirts seemed to be a big hit again this year!! I didn't expect the bracelets to sell like hotcakes though.

I can't give Stacey, our local NILMDTS area coordinator, enough thanks for coming out to take pictures for us! As soon as I see what she has to give us, I will post them on the Facebook group. Shiela took a nice set as well, she has them posted in her album on her profile.

Here's hoping next year runs a little bit smoother and we have another successful walk!

We have a Facebook group!

Well in light of the fact that nearly everyone has a Facebook account, a group has been created. Since no one was utilizing the Agape forum, this will take its place. If anyone has any group questions or just wanna post pics or thoughts, the new FB group is the perfect place!

If you haven't gotten an invitation, just request to be a member. The group is closed to protect our privacy and so you can feel it's a safe place to talk openly. See everyone at the next meeting!

Good-bye Chaplin Kilonzo

I have only been able to know this wonderful man for the past 7 or 8 months, and even in that short amount of time my life is changed since knowing him. He has such a kind way about him and really gets you to understand what you're feeling. I know that the group wouldn't be what it has grown to today, without the work he has done to make it grow.

If you're reading this Chaplin Kilonzo, you better come back an check in often. Personally, you will always be a part of my life; as the people who pass thru it now in a positive way, will be as well. Good Luck in whatever you do and wherever you go!!

June Meetings

This month Chaplain Kilonzo will be leaving us. He has done such a wonderful job and been so caring in every meeting. I'm sure that I can say for all of us who have gotten to know him, that he will be surely missed.

The 9th will be our meeting for those of us pregnant or thinking of trying. On the 23rd will be our regular meeting. It wall also be the last one for Chaplain Kilonzo, who will also be introducing us to the chaplain taking his place.

We wish you well! We couldn't be where we are or the group we are, without you...

Last night we discussed the new information Womack finally has about Now I lay me Down to Sleep. The group talked about what more could be done and am super excited that Geri agreed to have some pamphlets put in the grief handouts they have in L&D. What's more, and possibly more important, is we also discussed the option of having the photo sessions brought up in prenatal/birthing classes.

As much as this might scare a lot of parents, it is also a reality that they should be prepared for. It's not something you want to think about when you're pregnant, but I remember being blissfully ignorant...

December Meeting

Since the date for our December meeting would fall just 2 days before Christmas, it has been moved up a week to the 16th. It will also be a potluck dinner! There seems to be no list or any order of the food being brought, so just bring whatever you like. Since it seems many don't go home this time of year, this will be our safe haven to come together as a group and celebrate together. See you there!!

Our extended 2nd Tuesday meeting

Seeing how we've grown (unfortunatly) we also hold another meeting on the second Tuesday of each month. You are still free to come, listen and share; but be aware the focus of this other meeting also discusses pregnancy and the thought of TTC. At the next meeting we will be having Dr. Parker joining us to answer questions and discuss things about trying to get pregnant. Dr. Parker is the RE over at Womack, and from what I hear he is the bomb.

So please join us! We look forward to lending an ear, a shoulder, and even a Kleenex.
